My surrogacy journey continues and I am so excited to have now completed this third step!
It has been an interesting ride without knowing the exact timing of my medical appointment.
There were several weeks we were trying to plan ahead for making the trip to New York and then it was postponed until the next week or month, so once it was actually scheduled, it was a bit surreal! We were able tonarrange childcare and the date available fell on one of my days off from work, preventing me from needing to ask off. My husband and I traveled together via train and were able to arrive right on time after catching a taxi in the city to the Fertility Clinic. My appointment went smoothly and I met the Physician and Team that had been working with my Intended Parents. My husband and I both had labor done that was clearly explained and discussed with us beforehand and afterwards in the setting of anything coming back abnormal. I hada physical exam and a saline ultrasound in which the doctor commented that it was ‘textbook.’
We turned in our Psychological testing screening to the team and then met with the RN on staff who taught us about the medications /injections. She was a wonderful source of knowledge and very responsive even with follow up questions after we arrived back home.
After this in person appointment that lasted several hours, we were scheduled to meet with the MD virtually later that week to discuss results of the lab work. The RD from the fertility clinic had called me to review my labs and quickly confirmed that all was normal and there were not any surprises to discuss after the good news was given which was a relief.
A week later we were scheduled for our Psychological screening appointment with Dr. Witkin via a virtual visit with my husband and I and then later that same afternoon with both of our Intended parents. During these calls, some of the questions and topics were discussed that we had not gotten to address yet between us and we found it very helpful.
After these appointments, both in the same day, we were given Psychological clearance and received an email.
We are now moving i to the legal portion of the process and are enjoying learning and getting to know more about surrogacy as we go. Our Intended parents have been wonderful and we have enjoyed getting to know them better along the way!
