The first trimester was a rollercoaster, but not for the usual pregnancy reasons! I ended up getting the flu for two awful weeks, and after about a week, I couldn’t keep any fluids down. The IPs were amazing, they sent over soup, bread, and cookies, which I could eat a little of, and I finished all of the soup! At one point, it got bad enough that I had to go to the hospital because I simply couldn’t keep anything down. Thankfully, we already knew I was pregnant, and the doctors gave me fluids through an IV, which made me feel so much better since I couldn’t keep water down on my own. They also checked on the baby to make sure everything was okay, and thankfully, the baby was perfectly fine. I was so relieved! After that, I was able to go home and start eating again, although not full meals right away. However, it was a huge improvement. Other than that rough flu experience, the first trimester was easy. I honestly kept forgetting I was pregnant because I didn’t feel like it. This was like my first pregnancy, with very few noticeable symptoms. I only threw up once with my daughter, and that was because I was brushing my tongue, gagged, and barely made it back to the bathroom in time. Hahaha! This pregnancy was similar. I could barely brush my tongue without wanting to vomit every day, but I never actually did, except for when I had the flu. Not pregnancy-related at all!
All in all, the first trimester had its moments of misery with the flu, but otherwise, it was smooth sailing. I felt “normal,” got to enjoy the amazing support from my IPs, and best of all, the baby was healthy and growing as expected.
