Nine years ago, I was in my first year of motherhood and my marriage was ending. It was also at this time we learned his sister could never conceive a child on her own. I left my old life in Arizona and headed back home to upstate New York, but the heartache I felt for the family they would never have haunted me. From application to pre-screening, I have felt valued, respected, and informed. The level of care and attention to detail NYSC offers is exceptional. The process is digital – from forms, to consents, to medical records, reimbursements, meetings, agreements (you name it), which has been efficient and convenient. NYSC uses a third party to “Gather” medical records, which is the bulk of the pre-screening process. The company is friendly to work with and communicated by email, phone call, and text, which felt personal. I also made an appointment with my OB to obtain a MD surrogacy approval, STD testing, and a PAP. Along with a urine drug test. NYSC provides a check list so you don’t get lost along the way. There is a lot of paperwork, so I recommend organizing everything in a folder.
Overall, email is the primary communication, but NYSC is just a phone call away for matters that may need one-on-one attention. After all my medical records were received, I engaged in a physiological screening (also digital) and was cleared to begin the match making process. This is when the journey starts to step forward into the light and feel real. It was surreal to see the preview of my surrogate profile for the first time. I felt all those feelings of excitement rush back to me as I was able to visualize for myself what the next steps of this journey might look like…
